Public Works plans a Clean and Green Sweep
at Sunday's Bay to Breakers Race
Crews to Ask House Parties to Keep it Clean
San Francisco, CA -This Sunday, more than 65,000 runners will dash along a 7 1/2 mile route of scenic San Francisco views and grueling and demanding hills at the ING Bay to Breakers race. But following just behind the thousands of runners will be an army of Department of Public Works employees who will sweep the streets clean of clothing, thousands of drinking cups, empty beer kegs, flattened tortillas and other assorted debris and litter left in the wake of the footrace.
By the time the first runner crosses the finish line at Ocean Beach, public works crews will be busy reopening streets downtown and methodically cleaning along the route trailing the last of the runners. This year, DPW supervisors and police officers will be visiting house parties along the route to remind property owners of their cleanup responsibilities.
