Upper Haight Transit Improvement and Pedestrian Realm Project

Project Information

The Haight Street of today is markedly different than the Haight Street of past generations but many aspects of the public realm remain relatively unchanged. The Upper Haight Transit Improvement and Pedestrian Realm project is based on a community-supported vision to revitalize the streets, sidewalks and public spaces in the historic Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. The future design of Haight Street will enable the greatest possible degree of flexibility by creating urban spaces that are able to evolve with the changing demands of the neighborhood.

Geary at Park Presidio Improvements Project

Project Description

Public Works began improvements at the intersection of Geary Boulevard and Park Presidio Boulevard in August 2018.  This project aims to provide a safer and more inviting environment for Muni passengers, pedestrians, runners and vehicular traffic at the intersection of Geary Boulevard and Park Presidio Boulevard. Our goal was to construct improvements and features that reflect the needs of the community and reinforce neighborhood identity.

Mission Street at Trumbull Street Safety Improvement Project

Project Description

The Mission and Trumbull Safety Improvements include realigning Trumbull Street to allow more conventional vehicular turns, pedestrian bulbouts to improve safety and roadway repaving from the intersection of Mission and Trumbull streets to Craut Street. Benefits for pedestrians include shorter crossing distances and better visibility. The new design will slow down vehicular traffic along Trumbell Street.

Folsom Street Streetscape Improvement Project

The Folsom Street Streetscape Improvement project extends from 19th Street to Cesar Chavez Street in the Mission District, and includes traffic signal upgrades, resurfacing and pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements. The community, through the Eastern Neighborhoods Planning process, identified Folsom Street as a ‘green connector’ for the neighborhoods it passes through, citing its central location and the consistent canopy of large street trees along it southern portion.
