Department of Public Works to Sweep Up Parade Route

Encourages Public to Use Extra Garbage and Recycling Bins

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – As thousands of Bay Area fans gather in San Francisco today for the San Francisco Giants 2010 World Series victory parade, the Department of Public Works has assembled a small, but efficient army of staff and equipment to clean up the route. DPW also placed extra refuse and recycling receptacles along the parade route and encourages the public to recycle and, especially, to put litter in its place.

DPW staff will help the City celebrate by getting the parade route and Civic Center area clean and green as quickly as possible. The department is deploying two flushers, four green machines, three mechanical sweepers, 10 blowers, and 30 cleaning staff who will clean up Market Street and the Civic Center area during and after the celebration.

DPW is responsible for the care and maintenance of San Francisco’s streets and much of its infrastructure. The department cleans and resurfaces streets; plants and maintains City street trees; designs, constructs and maintains city-owned facilities; inspects streets and sidewalks; constructs curb ramps; removes graffiti from public property; and partners with the diverse neighborhoods in San Francisco to provide stellar cleaning and greening services.
