Here is what is happening on Folsom Street :
We are excited to say that paving activities along the Folsom Streetscape Improvements Project are now substantially complete. The newly paved roadway is helping bring the vision for a safer, more accessible, and more attractive corridor to life.
Segment 3 -Folsom Street 2nd St. to 5th St
- July - Returning to pave 4th St to 3rd St and 3rd St
The only remaining paving work is located at the 3rd Street intersection and along 3rd Street between Folsom and Clementina Streets. This work has been carefully coordinated around scheduled events at Moscone Center and is currently anticipated to be completed in mid-to-late July.
What We're Working on Now
- Over the next several weeks, crews will focus on completing the remaining streetscape improvements, including:
- Landscaping and planting throughout Segments 1, 2, and 3
- Sidewalk and flatwork punch list items
- Raised crosswalk construction near Sherman Street
- Installation of utility and streetscape features, including cistern rings and overhead contact system (OCS) work
- Final paving and paving punch list activities in the Phase 3 area
- Remaining pole foundation work and associated overhead wire installations
Segment 2 - Folsom Street 5th St. to 8th St.

- Continued punch-list work for paving and sidewalk improvements
- Planning landscaping and streetscape enhancements

Project Description and Scope of Work:
SF Public Works has hired Mitchell Engineering to perform vital infrastructure improvements along Folsom Street between 2nd Street to 11th Street. The Folsom Streetscape Project which began in May of 2024 has an overall duration of 2-years, 7-months (950-days). The Folsom Streetscape Project aims to improve traffic safety and livability along this important corridor. Folsom Street is part of the City’s Vision Zero high-injury network, making it a high priority for street-safety improvements. The Folsom Streetscape Project will transform the corridor, prioritizing non-motorized modes of travel.

Streetscape features:
- two-way protected bikeway
- landscaped median separating the bikeway from traffic
- bulb-outs
- raised crosswalks to shorten crossing distances
- parking lanes on both sides of the street.
- the addition of 18 commemorative plaques highlighting LGBTQ community
- custom benches
- custom bike racks
- decorative crosswalks

- transit-only lane
- transit boarding islands
- repaved streets
- protected European-style intersections
- midblock signals
- dedicated bicycle traffic signals
- accessible loading zones and curb ramps
- pedestrian scaled lighting
- upgraded water and sewer infrastructure
Greening elements:
- 33 new trees
- median landscaping
- rain gardens to capture stormwater runoff
Roadway and utility work:
Wastewater replacement (replacing more than 1,300 linear feet of aging sewer pipelines and rehabilitating approximately 1,000 linear feet of existing 3’x5’ brick sewers with cured-in-place liner)
Sewer work is mainly on:
- Folsom Street between 10th and 11th Street
- Folsom Street between 7th and 8th Street
- Folsom Street between Hawthorne and 4th Street
Emergency firefighting system that supplies water to our fire hydrants. We will reconstruct 3 high-pressure hydrants and approximately 300 linear feet of the system.
Updating streetlights with brighter, more efficient lights and adding sidewalk lighting
Installing new electrical duct-bank overhead contact system and traction power improvements
