CITY TO KICK OFF PUBLIC WORKS WEEK WITH VOLUNTEER EVENT

Hundreds of volunteers to roll up sleeves to clean the Richmond District

San Francisco, CA – More than 200 volunteers are expected to participate in the Community Clean Team event on Saturday, May 19, 2012, from 9 am to noon, to spruce up San Francisco’s Richmond District and kickoff National Public Works Week. National Public Works Week takes place from May 20-26 and calls attention to the importance of public works projects, programs and services in our communities.

Volunteers will be meeting at George Washington High School, at the auditorium steps located at 30th Avenue and Anza Street. Work includes the clean-up and landscaping of the median along Geary Boulevard, litter pick up on Cabrillo and Balboa Streets; and graffiti removal and cleanup projects around Washington High School and the Richmond Playground.

At the kickoff site, Recology will be donating up to five gallons of free compost for residents to use in their gardens. They will also be providing Gigantic Three services with Clean City to residents in District One on Saturday morning from 8 am to 12 noon at 48th Avenue, between Anza Street and Geary Boulevard. Residents can drop off unwanted and obsolete bulky household items and green waste for FREE by calling 415-330-1330 to schedule an appointment. Proof of residency in District One is required.

Community Clean Team is led by the Department of Public Works in partnership with neighbors, schools, local businesses, other City agencies, and support from the Office of the Mayor Ed Lee and Supervisor Eric Mar. For more information, please visit sfdpw.org
