PUBLIC WORKS ENDS THE YEAR WITH A CLEAN SWEEP
Community Clean Team’s last volunteer event of the year to clean and green District 5
San Francisco, CA – The Department of Public Works and more than 200 volunteers will gather Saturday, Oct. 13, to clean, restore and beautify neighborhoods throughout District 5. Volunteers will kick off the event at the Ella Hill Hutch Community Center, 1050 McAllister St. for the eighth and final Community Clean Team event of the year.
Volunteers and staff will work on tree care and landscaping projects, remove weeds and overgrown vegetation, paint over graffiti and clean up litter in residential neighborhoods and commercial corridors on Webster, Fillmore, Haight, Divisadero and Hayes streets.
The Community Clean Team is one of the largest regular neighborhood cleanup events in San Francisco. The volunteer program partners city agencies with residents, merchants and students to clean and beautify neighborhoods.
In partnership with the Clean City Coalition and Recology, residents living in District 5 will have the opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted household bulky items -- such as mattresses, sofas, computers and washing machines (no pianos!!!) -- for FREE starting at 8 a.m. on Baker Street, from Oak to Fell streets. Recology also will be giving away up to 5 gallons of premium compost for urban gardens at the same location.
