Harrison Street Improvement Project

Project Description:
Harrison Street is a heavily traveled arterial traffic route associated with three Bay Bridge ramps: two on-ramps (at Essex Street and at First Street) and one off-ramp (at Fremont Street). The Harrison Street Improvement Project improved safety, accessibility, and the aesthetic qualities of Harrison Street between Essex Street and the Embarcadero and also Fremont Street between Folsom Street and Harrison Street. All work on this project has been completed.

The streetscape improvements included new infill street trees and understory planting; improved pedestrian and roadway lighting; bulb-outs and curb ramps; new sidewalk paving, special pavers in the furnishing zone, where trees and lighting are installed; and street furnishings including bike racks, and trash receptacles. This project also included replacement and/or rehabilitation of the sewer main along several blocks of Harrison Street.

In order to minimize any impacts associated with construction, and to ensure the entire limits aren’t under construction all at once for the 18-month duration, this project will be completed in segments. Although work can happen concurrently in both segments, a completion timeline has been placed on each segment to minimize the impact. The segments are as follow:

Segment A: Harrison Street (Essex St. to Beale St. Bridge) - Approximately an 8½ month duration

Segment B: Harrison Street (Embarcadero to Beale St. Bridge) - Approximately an 8½ month duration

Please sign-up to receive e-updates during construction. Updates will be sent bi-weekly to inform neighbors about the current and upcoming scopes of work, traffic impacts and any potential weekend work. Sign up for updates.
