Powell Street is being transformed into a vibrant, world-class downtown corridor that celebrates San Francisco’s iconic character while improving safety, accessibility, and the overall pedestrian experience. The Powell Street Improvement Project runs along Powell Street between Market and Geary Streets in San Francisco, California.

Reason(s) for Tree Removal: Ficus tree has multiple recent failures. Crown of tree experiences competing/codominant stems, past branch failures, limbs repeatedly damaged by vehicles, history of sidewalk repair and root pruning. Any pruning mitigation would cause canopy imbalance and make the tree unstable. Location is replantable.

Reason(s) for Tree Removal: Trees are on top of sewer line which must be replaced for proper sewage drainage from building. It cannot be repaired without destablizing the trees. Due to spacing and the sewer line, only one tree can be replaced.
