In 2006, the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency (Agency) and Public Works completed public streetscape improvements on Sixth Street, between Market and Harrison Streets, by widening sidewalks, planting new street trees and installing ornamental street lights. Through discussions with the South of Market Project Area Committee (SOMPAC), Agency staff and Public Works have identified an initial set of alleyways for improvements.

• Crews continue installation of pavers along the center median between Geary Blvd. and Anza Street.
• The contractor also continues road paver installation at the Geary/Masonic Plaza.
• Staff is also working on the planter beds at the plaza.
• This project is scheduled to be complete in a few weeks.

The Kearny Streetscape Improvement Project will be a redesign of Kearny Street, from Broadway to Vallejo streets, and will include landscape elements and replacement of the road surface.

The Irving Streetscape Improvement Project extends from 19th to 27th avenues in the City’s Outer Sunset district (map). Irving Street is the local commercial district for the surrounding residential neighborhood. The renovation will provide a safer and more inviting environment for pedestrians, motorists and transit riders. The streetscape project is joint with sewer replacement, curb ramp upgrades, and road repaving from 19th Avenue to the Great Highway.

The Folsom Street Streetscape Improvement project extends from 19th Street to Cesar Chavez Street in the Mission District, and includes traffic signal upgrades, resurfacing and pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements. The community, through the Eastern Neighborhoods Planning process, identified Folsom Street as a ‘green connector’ for the neighborhoods it passes through, citing its central location and the consistent canopy of large street trees along it southern portion.

The project ensured that a safe, gracious, inviting, and ecologically sustainable Cesar Chavez Street emerged as a focal point for one of San Francisco’s most vibrant neighborhoods. The community approved,conceptual plan for Cesar Chavez was the result of a two-year community design process that included a series of public meetings and workshops.
 

Project Information

The Laurel Village Improvement Project on California Street extends from Spruce Street to Laurel Street.  Laurel Village serves as a local commercial district for the surrounding residential neighborhood.  Our goals are to improve safety; provide a more attractive pedestrian environment; improve Muni travel time and reinforce the neighborhood identity of the Laurel Village Shopping Center.   Construction was completed in January 2019.
 

Broadway in Chinatown is one of the most recognizable districts in the city. With neighborhood-serving retail, schools, large-scale housing developments, and distinct historic character - great volumes of people travel to and through daily. The Streetscape improvement project will provide a safer and more pleasant walking experience, with new paving, streetlights, street trees, and street furnishings inspired by the unique history of the neighborhood.
 

The Bayview Transportation Improvements Project (BTIP) will improve the existing roadway network within San Francisco’s southeast waterfront community. The BTIP includes reconstructing, repaving, limited widening of existing city streets, and constructing new street segments to create a multi-modal transportation network.

The $248 million Road Repaving and Street Safety Bond was approved by voters in November 2011. With it, the City is repaving streets in neighborhoods throughout San Francisco; repairing deteriorating bridges, overpasses and stairways; and making traffic, pedestrian and bicycle and safety improvements.
