San Francisco, CA – With the season’s first rains expected to move into the City on Friday morning and last into the weekend, San Francisco Public Works is urging residents and businesses to sweep up leaves from the sidewalk to keep them from clogging catch basins. That simple act can help protect homes and businesses from localized flooding.

Community Clean Team Coastal Cleanup in the Sunset on Saturday

Volunteers to Remove Litter from Coastal Areas and Beautify District 4

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – More than 240 volunteers are expected to join Public Works crews and District 4 Supervisor Katy Tang at the Community Clean Team event on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 to support a statewide coastal cleanup initiative.

Only in San Francisco does Front Street front — nothing. And First Street misses actually being the Financial District’s first street by a half-dozen blocks.

Project Description

It’s an early morning in Chinatown and Suu Ngo, 67, is cooking potstickers on her kitchen stove. They sizzle in the oil as her pet dog, a small black mutt named Ellie, watches her from the floor.

When the time finally came to renovate the landmark Bayview Opera House, designer Walter Hood decided to elicit neighborhood feedback the way it would have been done in 1888 when the hillside auditorium was built.

He dragged a rocking chair onto the porch overlooking Third Street and invited neighbors to tell him what they thought of the old barn, which wasn’t much. Those who could find it, hidden behind a brick wall and thicket of trees, lined up to speak to the esteemed Hood, one-on-one. There was a 30-minute maximum, and some needed it all.
