Public Works Joins Neighbors to Cleanup Sunset Boulevard
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - On Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., the Department of Public Works, Supervisor Carmen Chu and neighborhood volunteers will weed and clean up Sunset Boulevard.
DPW's Bureau of Urban Forestry provides maintenance for this important boulevard, which connects Golden Gate Park to Lake Merced. The boulevard is 20 city blocks and is home to hundreds of trees and shrubs. Many of the large trees, unfortunately, are starting to over-mature and decline. DPW crews have been working to remove dead trees, and clear trees of dead or damaged limbs. In addition, DPW is seeking funding to begin a Sunset Boulevard reforestation plan to ensure that it remains a signature green belt in the City. The volunteer effort on Saturday will result in cleared vegetation and an improved running path. "We're improving Sunset Boulevard and most importantly, we're improving it together," said Supervisor Carmen Chu. "This is a great opportunity for neighbors to actively take part in improving the community."
Volunteers can call 3-1-1 for information.
