24th Street Pavement Renovation and Infrastructure Improvement Project

Project Description
San Francisco Public Works and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission partnered to bring safety improvements and infrastructure upgrades to 24th Street in the Noe Valley neighborhood. Our partnership allowed us to consolidate our work and minimize any impacts from construction. The limits of work on 24th Street were from Homestead Street to Guerrero Street. All work on this project has been completed.

The scope of work included sewer main rehabilitation/replacement, curb ramp installation at 4-way intersections and T-intersections, concrete bus pad installation, concrete street base replacement, grinding & paving, and stamped crosswalk work at the Sanchez St. intersection.

Sewer Work
Our engineers inspected the  sewer main on 24th Street and determined some blocks were in need of repair or replacement. The blocks of 24th Street that included sewer work were Sanchez Street to Vicksburg Street and Fair Oaks Street to Quane Street. The block between Sanchez and Vicksburg streets was rehabilitated through a process called cured-in-place-liner. The lining process was less impactful since it didn’t require full excavation

The block between Fair Oaks and Quane streets required full sewer replacement.

Bus Pad Construction
This project also included installation of new concrete bus pads at bus stops. This phase of work required the contractor saw-cut the roadway, excavate the area, and replace it with concrete. During installation of the new bus pads, the newly poured area remained closed 24x7 to all vehicle traffic for approximately 10 days. Although work at each bus pad location only take a few days to complete, the area remained closed for the concrete to cure and reach the necessary strength before supporting the weight of vehicles.
