San Francisco Public Works has contracted with Esquivel Grading and Paving, Inc. to improve sewer utilities and renovate the roadway at various locations in San Francisco as part of the Various Locations Pavement Renovation and Sewer Replacement Project No. 80 (VL80). We will be performing this work in the Tenderloin, Lower Nob Hill, Civic Center and Union Square neighborhoods. 

We have inspected the sewer facilities of all the blocks listed below, and will be re-lining those that have shown to be wearing down.  Re-lining these pipes now will prevent possible collapse of the sewer mains and pavement in the future. Sewer service will not be interrupted during the construction.  

This project will include sewer main re-lining, curb ramp installation, street base repairs and repaving. Work hours will vary by location, however, typical working hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend work is allowed but has not been scheduled at this time.

Street resurfacing work will be taking place on the following blocks. Only those in bold will be receiving sewer work as well:

Construction Updates

5/28/2026: Sewer Main Lining Work Starting in Mid-June:

The first phase of construction for this project will be re-lining the sewer mains of various blocks throughout the project area. This work is expected to begin in mid-June 2026, and will take place on the following blocks:

• O'Farrell Street from Jones Street to Taylor Street
• O'Farrell Street from Powell Street to Grant Avenue
• Larkin Street from Bush Street to Post Street
• Ellis Street from Taylor Street to Mason Street

• Hyde Street from Post Street to O'Farrell Street

   

This work does not require any open excavation in the roadway, and will have minimal impacts to traffic and garage/driveway access on the blocks listed above. To facilitate the flow of traffic during sewer lining work, street parking on these blocks will be limited, as will access to white curb loading zones.

This re-lining process produces minimal noise as well as some steam and a slight odor. We will be using liner resin with a masking agent that has a "pleasant, fruity" scent to reduce the odor. This process does not emit or include any harmful chemicals or substances.
