Jefferson Streetscape Improvements Project - Phase II

Jefferson Street is the "main street" of San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf, a global destination for locals and tourists alike. Construction of the first phase, two blocks from Hyde Street to Jones Street, was completed in June 2013. Phase II of the Jefferson Streetscape Improvements Project completes the remaining three blocks of the streetscape design on Jefferson Street, from Jones Street east to Powell Street.

Mission Branch Renovation Project

The San Francisco Public Library is currently renovating the Mission Branch Library. On behalf of the Library,  Public Works initiated a feasibility study that provided a needs assessment and analyzed the cost and practicality of design options. The study recommended moving forward with renovation of the Mission Branch Library, given that this branch lacks space to hold quality programs and the building’s systems are at the end of their service life. The library, one of seven Carnegie branches, opened in 1915 and was designed by G.

6th Street Pedestrian Safety Project

Project Update January 2025

  • Electrical work at 6th St. and Folsom St intersection is on hold through the end of January.
  • Concrete work at 6th St. and Folsom is on hold through the end of January.
  • Concrete work at 6th and Harrison on hold through the end of January.
  • Tree planting work continues 6th Street corridor through the end of the month

 

Fire Station No. 16

This seismic improvement for Fire Station No. 16 (originally built in 1938 and reconstructed in 1956) is part of the voter-approved Earthquake Safety and Emergency Response (ESER 2010) bond work to renovate or replace selected fire stations.

Fire Station No. 5

The Fire Station No. 5 seismic replacement project was funded by the Earthquake Safety and Emergency Response (ESER) Bond Program, a voter-backed initiative to strenghten neighborhood fire stations and other first response facilities.
