Tree Pruning Information

DPW maintains about 40,000 of the 100,000 street trees in San Francisco, mostly along major transportation corridors and within some redevelopment areas.

In addition to pruning trees on an as-needed basis, DPW provides routine maintenance. These trees are pruned between two to seven years, depending on the trees' characteristics and condition. It can take between one to six months to prune an entire street.

FAQ about the Official Notice on Tree Care

I recently received an Official Notice from the City of San Francisco regarding the tree adjacent to my property.  Does this mean my tree is in violation of any city codes?

The Tree Care notice you received in the mail was sent for educational and informational purposes only.  This notice was sent to over 30,000 property owners, and is not specific to your tree or your property.

DPW Partners with DRE to Build a Modern Work Order Management System

DPW and DRE are set to begin the implementation of the Computerized Maintenance Management System / Enterprise Asset Management (CMMS/EAM). CMMS/EAM strives to replace many of the asset inventory and work order management systems used by DRE and the DPW Bureaus. The web-based software solution that was selected, Infor EAM, is an industry leader in asset and maintenance management, and is successfully utilized by several major municipalities.

DPW Makes Data Tracking Easier

The Business Services Division (BSD) and Information Technology (IT) have just implemented a number of online programs and databases that will automate processing of certain documents, enable internal and external users to view and monitor various stages of processing, improve internal control of data, validate funding, and eliminate missing documents and miscommunication. These systems will allow us to maximize our efficiency and accuracy in processing these documents.

Divisadero Streetscape Construction Information

Under the direction of the Department of Public Works, Synergy Project Management Inc. began construction activity along Divisadero Street between Waller Street and Geary Boulevard in September 2009.

This revitalization project will consist of sewer installations, roadway pavement renovation, curb-ramps and new sidewalk bulb-outs. In addition, there will be beautification improvements such as new street-lighting fixtures, sidewalk and median landscaping and benches.
